Scripture Reading
Nehemiah 8:10
Nehemiah said, "Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."
Reflection
Nehemiah's instruction to a weeping people is startling: eat well, drink sweetly, share with those who have nothing, and do not grieve — because this day is holy. The joy of the Lord is not a mood to manufacture but a strength to receive; it comes from recognizing that we stand in the presence of the living God. Joy and holiness are not opposites. The holy day calls for feasting. Let the joy of the Lord fortify you today.
Prayer for Today
Dear Lord, Thank You for seeking and saving me by Your grace. Thank You for loving me when I was hard to love. (And for the times when I still am!) Help me to see others as You see them. Break my heart for what breaks Yours. Please use me to point others to Your hope.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen.
