1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Password (stored securely using one-way hashing)
  • Profile image (if provided or imported via social login)

1.2 Social Login Data

If you sign in using Google or Facebook, we receive:

  • Your email address and name from the social provider
  • Your profile picture URL

We do not receive or store your social media passwords. We do not post to your social media accounts.

1.3 Prayer Journal Data

When you use the Prayer Journal feature, we store:

  • Personal prayers you write or save
  • Prayers saved from our library
  • Answered prayer notes and dates
  • Prayer streak and activity data

Your journal content is private. It is never shared with other users, displayed publicly, or used for advertising.

1.4 AI Prayer Companion Data

When you use the AI Prayer Companion (PrayerAssist), we collect:

  • The situation you describe (your prayer prompt)
  • Your selected tradition and tone preferences
  • The AI-generated prayer text

Your prayer prompt is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate a personalised prayer. Anthropic processes this data according to their privacy policy. Anthropic does not use API inputs to train their models.

1.5 Prayer Wall Data

When you submit a prayer request to the Prayer Wall:

  • Your prayer text and display name are stored
  • If posted publicly, your display name and prayer text are visible to all visitors
  • Anonymous posts display “Anonymous” instead of your name
  • Prayer requests are reviewed by AI moderation before being published

1.6 Newsletter Data

If you subscribe to our Daily Prayer newsletter, we store your email address. You may unsubscribe at any time.

1.7 Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies for:

  • Session management and authentication
  • CSRF protection (security)
  • Remembering your preferences

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymous usage data. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain your account and services
  • Generate personalised prayers via the AI Prayer Companion
  • Display your prayer requests on the Prayer Wall (if you choose to post)
  • Send daily prayer emails (if subscribed)
  • Moderate content for safety and appropriateness
  • Improve our services and user experience

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your prayer content for advertising or marketing purposes.

3. AI Content Moderation

Prayer Wall submissions are reviewed by an AI moderation system (powered by Anthropic’s Claude) before being published. This is to protect our community from spam, abuse, and inappropriate content. Borderline content is flagged for human review rather than automatically rejected.

4. Data Sharing

We share your data only with:

  • Anthropic – prayer prompts are sent to generate AI prayers and moderate Prayer Wall submissions
  • Google/Facebook – only if you use social login (authentication data only)
  • Google Analytics – anonymous usage statistics

We do not share your data with any other third parties except as required by law.

5. Data Security

We protect your data using:

  • HTTPS encryption for all connections
  • Secure password hashing
  • CSRF and XSS protections
  • Secure, HTTP-only session cookies

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Unsubscribe from newsletters at any time
  • Choose to post anonymously on the Prayer Wall

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymous Prayer Wall submissions and prayer counts may be retained.

8. Children’s Privacy

Prayerist is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
