The Secret of Contentment

Scripture Reading

Philippians 4:11-12

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
Reflection
Contentment, Paul says, is learned — it does not arrive naturally. It is a discipline acquired through experience with both abundance and need, both the high places and the low. We often think we will be content when circumstances improve. Paul learned it while in chains, and that changes everything we thought we knew about the conditions for peace.
Prayer for Today
Loving Father, please send your Holy Spirit to lead me. You said that your Spirit will teach me all things and guide me into all truth. Remind me of the words of Jesus as I make choices today. When I become overwhelmed with the decisions that are placed before me, please give me the peace that surpasses all understanding. Clear my mind to follow you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Amen.
