Our Heart Is Restless

Saint of the Day
St. Augustine of Hippo

St. Augustine (354–430) was born in North Africa and lived a life of intellectual and moral searching before his conversion at age 31. Baptized by St. Ambrose in 387, he became Bishop of Hippo and one of the greatest theologians in Christian history. His "Confessions" is the first autobiography of Western literature and a timeless account of the soul's journey to God. His works on grace, the Church, and the Trinity shaped Christian thought for over a millennium.

Scripture Reading

Psalm 42:1-2

As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
Reflection
Augustine famously wrote, "Our heart is restless until it rests in you." He knew this from experience — decades of searching in the wrong places before finally arriving. The ache in the psalmist's voice, and in Augustine's confession, is not a failure of faith but a sign of the soul's true orientation: it was made for God, and it knows when it is far from him.
Prayer for Today
Dear Lord,

We have seen the damage firsthand that storms can cause in our lives. We know the destruction, aching, and devastation that they cause. If we are being honest, at times it can seem impossible that anything beautiful or good can come from such sorrows.
We know within our hearts that this isn't the end of the story, that You have something far greater to come.

Father, we ask today for Your hand in our lives. We pray for the restoration of our lives by Your process. That process may not look like what we would think or plan, but we know that because You see all that is, was, and is to come...that ultimately,
You will do what is most compassionate and best. Father, today we come before Your Holy throne to ask for Your restoration in our lives. We submit ourselves to Your ever-loving Will and kindness throughout.

In Jesus' name,
Amen

Amen.
