Scripture Reading
Leviticus 25:10
And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you, when each of you shall return to his property and each of you shall return to his clan.
Reflection
The Year of Jubilee was God's enacted vision of freedom — debts canceled, captives released, land restored. On Juneteenth, we remember that the freedom declared on paper in 1863 did not reach every enslaved person in America until June 19, 1865. The delay between proclamation and liberation is a wound; the proclamation itself is a promise. God's jubilee demands that we be agents of the freedom he has announced, until the news reaches everyone.
Prayer for Today
O Lord, my body is your temple and I present my body as a living sacrifice
Amen.
