The Spirit Prays in Us

Scripture Reading

Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Reflection
We often feel inadequate in prayer — unsure what to ask, how to express it, whether we are praying the right things. Paul's answer is not better technique but the Spirit's own participation. When we run out of words, the Spirit takes over with groanings too deep for language, bringing our inarticulate longings before the Father who knows exactly what is meant. Your most honest prayer — even wordless, even just a groan — is heard and interceded for by the Spirit himself.
Prayer for Today
. May the Lord continue to bless you, dear child. You will grow to be great and you will do exploits. You have brought joy to our family and I pray you will always be joyful and excellent. Happy birthday, daughter!

Amen.
