Psalm 42:7-8
Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me. By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
Reflection
The psalmist is overwhelmed — the deep waters of sorrow have covered him. Yet even in the depths, he discovers a deeper reality: God's steadfast love commanded by day and his song present by night. Even when we feel submerged, God's love is not absent — it has followed us down into the deep. In your own depths today, listen for the song that accompanies you even in the dark: you are loved, and you are not alone.
Prayer for Today
Grant me a good night's sleep tonight, God, so that I can awake refreshed and ready to begin another day loving you. Thank you again for blessings so undeserved and too numerous to count. I love being your child, and I long for the word "faithful" to describe my service to you, each day of every year. When I awake in the morning, may it be with a joyful smile, not a grumpy spirit. May your protection and your presence bathe this place with peace and safety against the enemy. Good night, Lord. In Jesus's name, Amen.
