Scripture Reading
Genesis 3:19
"By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
Reflection
The ashes pressed on our foreheads are not a punishment but a truth-telling. We are creatures, not gods — our lives are brief and fragile, utterly dependent on the One who breathed life into dust in the first place. Far from being morbid, this recognition is the door to deep freedom: we do not have to carry the weight of being our own saviors. Lent begins here, in honesty before God.
Prayer for Today
Dear God, I praise you for saving me through your beloved Son Jesus Christ. I understand that you have not saved me as a result of my personal works, but you have saved me through grace. Therefore, my life will remain dedicated to the praise of your name!
I will praise you always for saving me through grace. Please, I ask for more grace to remain faithful to you. Do not let me abuse my salvation with sin, but help me to live a sanctified life that will remain fit for your
kingdom. Empower me through your Holy Spirit to keep focus and remain serving you until the end of my life, so that I can meet you in heaven. For in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
Amen.
