Saint of the Day
The Blessed Virgin Mary

Mary of Nazareth, the Mother of God, was a Jewish girl from Galilee whose "yes" to the angel Gabriel changed human history. The dogma of the Immaculate Conception, defined by Pope Pius IX in 1854, holds that Mary was preserved from original sin from the moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ. She is venerated across Christian traditions as the supreme model of discipleship and prayer.

Scripture Reading

Luke 1:30-33

But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob's descendants forever; his kingdom will never end."
Reflection
The Immaculate Conception is a feast about the sheer extravagance of divine grace — God preparing a vessel worthy of carrying the Word made flesh. Mary was not made sinless because she deserved it, but because God's grace is always prior to human merit. The same grace that prepared her womb also prepares our hearts: Advent is grace at work before we can even ask for it.
Prayer for Today
O Lord, I give you my worries and concerns and I ask for your guidance. You see it all, the outer circumstances, the inner turmoil. I know that you understand my life, that sometimes my heart weighs heavy with trouble. Right now I lay all these things before you. I breathe in, safe in the knowledge that I am held by grace. I breathe out, knowing that I am held secure in your arms. And I wait on you. For you are all truth, you are overflowing love, you are a beacon of hope and a fortress of faith. Lord, I choose to be attentive to your voice. May I be alert to your Spirit's guiding as I journey onwards with you. I love you Father. Amen.

Amen.
