Luke 1:76-79
"And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace."
Reflection
"O Dayspring, come and enlighten those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death." Zechariah sang this at the birth of his son John, who would prepare the way. On the winter solstice — the year's longest night — we cry for the rising sun. Christ is the dawn that no winter can prevent. From this day forward, light increases. Hold on: morning is coming.
Prayer for Today
God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time.
