Scripture Reading

Luke 15:20

So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.
Reflection
The Incarnation is God running toward us while we are still a long way off. The prodigal son's journey home mirrors what Advent celebrates: a world returning, however haltingly, to its Father, and a Father who has been watching the horizon since the moment we left. The manger is the Father's arms thrown open wide. We do not have to fully arrive before grace meets us.
Prayer for Today
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.

Amen.
