Scripture Reading
1 Thessalonians 5:15
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
Reflection
The temptation to retaliate — to pay wrong for wrong — is among the most natural and deeply rooted of human impulses. Paul does not pretend the pull is not there; he simply says, resist it, and pursue good instead. The word "strive" suggests this is not easy; it takes effort to break the cycle of retaliation and introduce something new. But that interruption is where the kingdom of God enters human conflict. Be that interruption.
Prayer for Today
Dear Heavenly Father, We pray that you lift our worries from our minds, and place in our hearts the enormity of your love. We ask that you give courage, strength and hope to those who are sick, and to their families and friends. Please bless the hands and hearts of all those who work in this hospital. Amen
Amen.
