Psalm 42:8
By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.
Reflection
The psalmist is downcast — this is clear from the verses around this one. And yet, even in that downcast night, a song surfaces. God does not only speak in triumph and clarity; sometimes his presence is a quiet song in the dark. If you are in a nighttime season, listen for it. It is still there.
Prayer for Today
God of love, we remember the courage of the countless men and women who put their lives at risk in order to rescue, alleviate and bring solace to the afflicted.
Amen.
