The Armor of Light

Scripture Reading

Romans 13:12-14

The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
Reflection
Paul uses the image of waking at dawn and dressing for the day — but the garment he prescribes is Christ himself. To "put on" Jesus is to allow his character and priorities to cover ours the way clothing covers skin. The darkness recedes not primarily by fighting it but by stepping more fully into the light that Christ provides.
Prayer for Today
We thank you Lord, for allowing us to come together for this Christmas Party.
We acknowledge your blessings and your all-abounding love.

Grant that as we enjoy this occasion, we can also share your words of love through our actions.

Bless the hands that have prepared this food. May they prepare more healthy and nourishing food for your people. May they be blessed with your peace and love.

Bless the organizers of this party that they may also thrive in your peace and love.

Bless all who are present here today and all families back home that we may experience the true meaning of Christmas.

That Christmas is your birthday and as thus, we should celebrate it with you.

May we learn to give more than to receive, just as you did in your manger in Bethlehem.

You have gifted us with your generous blessings and love in spite of our shortcomings.

May you continue to guide us in your future endeavors.

May your love and peace be known to the world through our actions.

All these we ask in your powerful name, amen.

Amen.
