Psalm 34:17-18
When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Reflection
Two kinds of suffering are described here: trouble that assaults from the outside, and brokenness that happens within. For both, God is near and God delivers. The brokenhearted do not need to first reconstruct themselves before God will come — he is near to them precisely in their brokenness. The cry of need is itself the connection point.
Prayer for Today
Father God, we humbly pray for all those who are fighting cancer. Give them the hope and courage they need each day. Comfort them in their pain and bless them with healing. Strengthen their family, friends, and caregivers. In Jesus' name, Amen.
