Scripture Reading
Mark 10:43-45
"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Reflection
The disciples were arguing about greatness, and Jesus did not dismiss their longing — he redirected it. The hunger for significance is real and not wrong; what Jesus challenges is the direction of that hunger. True greatness flows downward into service rather than upward into status. The greatest life ever lived was poured out as a ransom for many. What would it look like to pour yours out today?
Prayer for Today
All-Knowing God, thank you that you are the resurrection and the life, death holds no power over you. Your word says that, even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Thank you for your strength and protection. Let me be filled with gratitude to you. Thank you that neither death or life, angels or rulers, things present or future, height or depth, or anything else in all creation, will be able to separate me from your love. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Amen.
