Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Reflection
The promise is reciprocal: movement toward God is met with movement toward us. But James pairs the promise with honesty about what keeps us at a distance — divided hearts, unclean motives. The path toward God is not impressive; it begins with honesty about where we actually are and a single step in his direction.
Prayer for Today
My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You; never permit me to be separated from You.
