Saint of the Day
Sts. Peter and Paul
Peter was a fisherman called to be the first among the apostles; Paul was a Pharisee turned missionary who wrote much of the New Testament. Both were martyred in Rome under Nero, and together they are celebrated as the twin pillars of the church.
Scripture Reading
Matthew 16:18
"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
Reflection
Peter and Paul gave their lives for the church Jesus promised to build. One was impulsive and sometimes failed spectacularly; the other had persecuted believers before becoming one. Together they remind us that God builds his kingdom through flawed, transformed people — and that what he builds stands, even when hell presses hard against it.
Prayer for Today
Oh Lord, I pray that children will not only honor their mother and father, but I pray also that they will hear the instructions given and will not forget the teachings within the children's ministry. I pray that the curriculum is determined by You so that the things learned can be graceful garlands for their heads and pendants for their necks. I pray that they remain in their minds and in their hearts. Thank You Lord, Amen.
Amen.
