Scripture Reading
Luke 4:18
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed."
Reflection
On Juneteenth, we remember that freedom delayed is still bondage — and we give thanks for the long arc of liberation. Jesus read these words as his own mission statement: freedom, healing, deliverance. The gospel has always been good news in the fullest sense, and the church is called to embody that news in every generation.
