Recognizing the Risen Christ

Scripture Reading

Luke 24:30-32

When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, 'Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?'
Reflection
The disciples on the road to Emmaus had walked with the risen Christ for miles without recognizing him — until he broke the bread. Sometimes we look for God in the dramatic and miss him in the ordinary: the shared meal, the open Word, the quiet burning in the heart. Easter eyes learn to see Christ in everyday moments. Where has your heart been burning lately without your noticing?
Prayer for Today
God Almighty, we ask for healthy, thriving relationships between neighbors. We pray different cultures will be able to understand and care for one another in our neighborhood. We pray that the diversity of your people will be celebrated by all neighbors, just as you affirm and love each one of us.

Amen.
