Saint of the Day
St. Mark the Evangelist
St. Mark was a companion of the apostle Peter and wrote the earliest of the four Gospels, recording Peter's eyewitness accounts of Jesus. He is traditionally credited with founding the church in Alexandria, Egypt, and died a martyr around 68 AD.
Scripture Reading
Mark 16:15
And he said to them, 'Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.'
Reflection
St. Mark gave his life to recording the good news and spreading it throughout the Roman world, traditionally taking the gospel to Alexandria and North Africa. His Gospel is the shortest and most urgent, breathless with the word 'immediately.' The Feast of St. Mark reminds us that the gospel is not meant to be hoarded but carried — into neighborhoods, workplaces, and ordinary conversations. What corner of your world is waiting to hear good news?
Prayer for Today
O God of all the nations of the earth: Remember the multitudes who have been created in your image but have not known the redeeming work of our Savior Jesus Christ; and grant that, by the prayers and labors of your holy Church, they may be brought to know and worship you as you have been revealed in your Son; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Amen.
