Scripture Reading

1 Peter 1:3-4

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.
Reflection
Peter calls our hope "living" — not a static wish but a dynamic, growing reality rooted in the resurrection. Earthly inheritances can be squandered, lost to fire or flood or legal dispute. But the inheritance kept for us in heaven is imperishable; no circumstance, no failure, no force in creation can touch it. Let this living hope lift your eyes today above the temporary turbulence of present circumstances.
Prayer for Today
God our strong deliverer: when those charged with the urgent mediation of your healing power feel overwhelmed by the numbers of the suffering, uphold them in their fatigue and banish their despair. Let them see with your eyes, so they may know all their patients as precious. Give comfort, and renew their energy and compassion, for the sake of Jesus in whom is our life and our hope. Amen.

Amen.
